Amazon is holding a big event in Los Angeles today. It's expected to announce a new Kindle Fire, a new backlit e-reader, and possibly a smart phone.

Since the event is in LA, many are also expecting a Hollywood-related announcement.

AllThingsD's Peter Kafka thinks Amazon could reveal a video box for the living room. His theory stems from sources who say Amazon offered to buy Roku earlier this year.

Roku is a web-connected box that lets you stream content from popular services such as Hulu, Netflix, HBO GO, and Pandora to your TV.

Instead of taking Amazon's offer, Roku raised a $45 million round of financing.

"No matter what hardware Bezos shows off tomorrow, at some point he?s going to have to come up with some way of getting all of the video Amazon is buying onto your flatscreen," Kafka writes. "Or else he?ll end up ceding the living room to everyone else."
